Pioneers Announce 2011 Coaching Staff

The Elmira Pioneers, members of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League announced their coaching staff for the 2011 season. Head Coach Dan Shwam returns as skipper with two new assistant coaches. Former Pioneer Gabe Memmert joins the team as Hitting Coach and Everett Saul comes on board as Pitching Coach.
"We were lucky to find Gabe and Everett", said Coach Shwam. "Gabe played and coached for me at the professional level in Alexandria. He has a real solid understanding of the hitting process. Everett pitched for Jeff in Florence and understands the hard work needed to make the jump from college to pro ball."
"It is hard to replace Cody Castle, he was the best coach in the league last year. We are glad he was able to use his time with the Pioneers as a stepping stone to a full time coaching position. But, I know Everett well and he has all the tools to be an excellent coach.", stated GM Jeff Kunion. "We will be a better hitting team this year with Gabe as our coach. He knows how to break down the hitting process and he will be a great help to our young players."
Memmert, a University of Maine alumnus, played professionally for seven seasons hitting .288 with 35 HR's and 191 RBI's. He currently works as a Hitting Instructor at the Baseball USA facility in Houston, TX.
Saul pitched professionally for three years, winning 20 games for Florence in the Frontier League. He currently works as a Pitching Instructor at Pro Prospects Training in Middletown, NY.
The Pioneers Opening Night is June 9 versus the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. Join us for the post game Fireworks Show, presented by the City of Elmira. It's Thirsty Thursday and all drinks are $1.00.
