Peninsula Pilots News Release

HAMPTON, Va. - Chad Sedio and Tony Rosselli hit two home runs apiece to help lift the Edenton Steamers to a 9-6 victory over the Peninsula Pilots in the regular season finale at War Memorial Stadium on Monday night.

Heading in the playoffs, Edenton (40-15, 20-8) reached the 40 win plateau on the season with the help of four home runs in the victory. The Pilots (28-25, 13-15) were unable to pull within .500 in the second half but hold the #3 seed in the East Division. The Steamers hold the overall seed and will face Holly Springs in the first round while the Pilots will face Wilmington.

The Pilots took an early lead as Dom Thompson-Williams (South Carolina) scored on a balk by Steamers' starter, Chris Bonk (Hofstra).

Edenton answered quickly with a three spot in the second inning. Chad Sedio (Miami Ohio) wrapped up his strong regular season with the first of two home runs, a solo shot to left-center. Back to back singles by Tony Rosselli (Indiana State) and Nick Maguire (Columbia) set up Stefan Van Horn's (Washington State) RBI ground out to take their first lead of the game. Cole Gruber (Nebraska-Omaha) drove in Maguire with a single and the Steamers took a 3-1 lead.

Peninsula got one back in the bottom half of the inning to pull within one. Back to back one-out singles by Kurt Sinnen (Old Dominion) and Luke Toms (Lee) started the rally. After a fly out, Garrett Brooks (East Carolina) drew a walk to load the bases. Thompson-Williams stroked a single through the left side to score Sinnen but Brooks was thrown out at third before Toms was able to score, allowing only one run to score.

Edenton extended their lead to 5-2 in the third inning thanks to back-to-back home runs by Sedio and Rosselli.

Peninsula cut the deficit to two with a RBI groundout by Brooks but the Steamers quickly answered with two in the very next inning. Sedio reached on a single and Rosselli hit his second home run of the night to left field to take a 7-3 lead.

The Pilots kept fighting as they scored two in the fifth to pull back within two. Jimmy Kerrigan (VCU) hit a leadoff double and came around to score on Will Shepherd's (Liberty) single. Hunter Taylor (South Carolina) joined in the action with a double down the left field line to score Shepherd and pull within two.

Edenton plated two more runs in the seventh on Maguire's two-run single to take a 9-5 advantage.

The Pilots scored a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Shepherd but could not pull any closer and suffered another defeat to the hands of the Steamers. The Steamers ended the regular season with a 10-3 record against the Pilots this season.

Mick Fennell (Cal-Pennsylvania) took his first decision of the year with three innings of two-run ball. The right-hander scattered four hits and struck out two. Carson Herndon (Liberty) took the loss for the Pilots, falling to 2-4 on the season.

The Pilots face the Wilmington Sharks in the first game of the 2015 Petitt Cup Playoffs on Wednesday at War Memorial Stadium at 7:05.
