March 23, 2009 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Marquette Rangers News Release

Marquette - Marquette Rangers forward Chad Pietila has been named the Sher-Wood North American Hockey League North Division Player of The Week for his performance last weekend against the Motor City Machine.

The performance was an exclamation point to a weekend where the Milford, Michigan native also agreed to play his college hockey for Walt Kyle and the Northern Michigan Wildcats

Pietila scored a three goal hat-trick on Saturday to go with a three assist performance on Friday as the Rangers swept the Machine at Lakeview Arena by scores of 5-3 and 6-5. The Rangers are now tied with the Alpena IceDiggers for the fourth and final playoff spot in the NAHL North Division.

Marquette hosts Traverse City for two games this weekend, while Alpena plays two games at Mahoning Valley before ending their season Sunday against the U.S. National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor.

"Chad has been our go-to guy all year and with so much on the line last weekend, he stepped up for us when we needed it most," said Rangers head coach Kenny Miller.  "To see Chad get his first Junior A hat trick on Saturday was rewarding, too. He works hard every day for our club and his efforts have really paid off."

Pietila leads the Rangers is scoring with 60 points (24g, 36a) on the season, and currently ranks as the top scorer in the NAHL North Division, and tied for fifth overall in league scoring with North Iowa's Brandon Brodhag.
