Midfielder Junior Flemmings scored two goals in addition to his assist.
Goalkeeper Zac Lubin earned his third clean sheet of the season.
Rising FC had its seventh consecutive sellout
Phoenix Rising drew first blood for the first time at home in the 34th minute when Flemmings took the ball and dribbled around his defender before uncorking a curling shot from outside of the box that snuck inside the far right post to make it 1-0.
Three minutes later, in the 37th minute, Solomon Asante streaked down the right flank and slid a grass-cutting cross into the box for an on-rushing Jason Johnson, who beat his defender to the ball and beat the goalkeeper at the net to make it 2-0.
The first-half scoring onslaught came to an end in the 44th minute when Johnson mailed a diagonal cross onto the box and found the head of Flemmings who had no trouble putting the ball on target for a 3-0 lead before the half.
Asante got in on the scoring in the second half. In the 55th minute, Flemmings drove into the box down the left side. With some space to shoot, he sent the ball across the ball, instead, to a waiting Asante. After taking a touch, Asante easily beat the goalkeeper for the fourth and final goal of the match.
On the other side of the pitch, Lubin didn't face many challenges from the Defiance attack, but punched them away when he did. Lubin's most impressive save came in the 86th minute. Tacoma's Austin Brummett redirected a cross toward the top center of the goal but Lubin was there to punch it straight up into the air before eventually punching out of the box and out of danger.
Rising heads back on the road in USL Championship play with a challenging road match at Sacramento Republic on Saturday, April 27. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. from Papa Murphy's Park.
