Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Phillies have finalized the schedule for the team's 40th Eastern League season which will be played in 2006. The season begins at Bowie (Orioles) on Thursday, April 6 at 7:05 PM and the Home Opener is set for Thursday, April 13 vs. Altoona (Pirates). The R-Phils will play 70 of the 142-game schedule at FirstEnergy Stadium, once at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia and 71 times on the road.

A rare Sunday off-day highlights the very first home stand. To give fans, players and staff the opportunity to spend Easter Sunday with their families and another opportunity to see Reading play in Philadelphia there will be no game on April 16. The game with the Curve, originally scheduled for Easter Sunday, will be the one moved to Philadelphia. Reading will host Altoona at Citizens Bank Park on Monday, June 12 at 7:05 PM. This will mark the second consecutive season that the R-Phils will play an E.L. game in the home park of their long-time affiliate. Reading defeated Trenton 5-3 before 5,000+ on May 9, 2005. The 5th annual morning game will be on Wednesday, May 10 vs. New Hampshire (Toronto) at 9:35 AM. The game is popular among 2nd and 3rd shift workers and senior citizens.

Memorial Day will be celebrated with an afternoon game on Monday, May 29 at 2:05 PM vs. the Connecticut Defenders (San Francisco). The Giants affiliate is not new to the E.L. but their identity is. The Defenders had been known as the Norwich Navigators. July 4 is also a home date. Altoona will be in town for a 7:05 PM game with fireworks. The promotions and entertainment portion of the schedule, annually considered among the best in baseball, is in development. Fans have the chance to get the best available seats with season tickets, available now. Mini-plans, groups, buffets and individual seats will be available in the coming weeks.
