Philadelphia Wings Take Hold Of Second Place In Division With 11-10 Overtime Win In Buffalo

Philadelphia Wings News Release
The Philadelphia Wings needed just a little more to beat the Buffalo Bandits on the road, winning 11-10 in sudden death overtime on a Drew Westervelt goal at the First Niagara Bank Center in Buffalo on Friday.
Despite another slow start, which has become increasingly common for Philadelphia, the Wings managed to overcome a 6-2 half time deficit with an offensive explosion of nine goals in the second half, including Jordan Hall's goal with three seconds in regulation to tie the game at 10-10 and force overtime.
Westervelt's game winning goal, his third of the game, put the forward in sixth place on the Wings all-time goal list, tying Wings legend Gary Gait with 150 career goals. A balanced offense supported Westervelt, as six different Wings scored in the win; including three goals from Paul Rabil and two goals each from Kevin Buchanan and Kevin Crowley.
The Wings defense, anchored by goalie Brandon Miller allowed only one goal in the fourth quarter and overtime to seal the win for the 5-3 Wings. Miller, who was named the league's top defensive player this week, for the second time this season, recorded 40 saves on the night.
Rattling off their third consecutive win after a three game losing streak, the Wings move to sole possession of second place in the East division.
"This could very well be one of the best character wins in the Wings franchise history," said team president and owner, former player Mike French. "It shows the importance of the leadership we have in the locker room."
Coming off a dramatic comeback win of their own in Toronto the night before, Buffalo was led by Shawn Williams with six points on two goals and four assists and Luke Wiles with three goals. With this loss, Buffalo falls to third in the division and a half game behind the Wings.
The Wings return home to Wells Fargo Center Saturday, March 9 to take on the Washington Stealth at 8p.m. for dollar hot dog night.
Tickets to all Philadelphia Wings home games at Wells Fargo Center are available online at www.WingsLAX.com, by phone at 215-389-WING or in person at the Wells Fargo Center box office.
