Philadelphia Wings News Release
The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) have signed defenseman Thomas Hajek to a one-year contract for the 2012 season, pending league approval. The former Wings Captain and defenseman returns to the Philadelphia Wings after playing one season with the Boston Blazers.
Hajek is a three-time All-Star and eight-year league veteran who played 109 games with the Wings and recorded seven goals and 45 assists during his first stint with the team from 2004 to 2010. The Wings selected Hajek with the ninth overall pick in the 2003 NLL Entry Draft and he quickly became a fan favorite. He was named the team captain of the 2005 squad and was named a starter for the 2006 and 2007 NLL All-Star games.
"It is a nice to be welcomed back into the Wings family," says Hajek. "The organization has done a superb job of acquiring high level talent and I hope to contribute in making 2012 a successful season."
"I personally am thrilled to have Thomas back where he belongs as a Philadelphia Wing," says Wings Executive Vice President and Co-Owner Mike French. "He adds another 'character' element to our lineup and locker room. His blue collar attitude and style of play is something I know both our coaching staff and fans are excited to see returning to the Wells Fargo Center."
The University of Vermont graduate is a native of Bratislava, Slovakia and was raised in St. Catharines, Ontario. During his college career, he was team captain for men's ice hockey, a three-time letter winner in lacrosse and played for the Victoria Shamrocks of the Western Lacrosse Association.
The Philadelphia Wings will open the 2012 season against the Rochester Knighthawks at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 7 p.m.
