Edmonton, AB----Edmonton Rush General Manager/Head Coach Derek Keenan announced today that the club has signed defender Brett Mydske to a three-year contract.

Mydske captured the Rush's Top Rookie Award for the 2010 season and followed up in 2011 captioning the Rush's Top Defender Award as he showcased his talents at both ends of the floor. On offense, the New Westminster, B.C., native led Rush defenders in goals (8) and tied with teammate Bill Greer for a total points (12).

"Brett is a big part of the Edmonton Rush foundation so signing him to a long term deal is very important to the future of the franchise. He is a top young defender in the NLL and will only get better. Brett is very committed to the success of this team." notes Keenan.

"Every game he is responsible for checking the leagues best offensive players and he consistently limits production, he's a very complete player."

Mydske, 23, experienced a staple year with being named to the NLL All-Star Team in 2011 and brought home a gold medal for Team Canada at the World Indoor Men's Lacrosse Championships held in Prague May of this year.

The six-foot-four, 205-pound Limestone College product was Edmonton's third-round pick (25th overall) in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft. Prior to joining the Rush, Mydske was named the B.C. Junior `A' League's Top Defensive Player for the '09 campaign.

The Rush opens the 2012 National Lacrosse League season on January 20 at Rexall Place against divisional rival Colorado Mammoth.
