Philadelphia Wings News Release

The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) today named Michael French as team president and majority owner. French's new title and assumption of the role of majority owner, marks the first time in the organization's 26-year history that the team will now have complete local ownership. Since the team's inception, French has been involved in nearly every capacity: player, coach, general manager, owner, and now team president.

As team president, French will oversee day-to-day lacrosse operations, including personnel and player transactions. French will also play a major role as liaison to Comcast-Spectacor in the Wings' marketing and sales partnership with the owner of Wells Fargo Center, home of the Wings. This partnership also enables the Wings to utilize the experienced sales staff from the Philadelphia Flyers, also owned by Comcast-Spectacor.

French's career with the Wings began in 1987 as a player, when he led the league in goals during its inaugural season. The following season, he was named general manager; during his time in that position, French oversaw three championships seasons in seven years. In 1994, his first and only season as head coach, French guided the team to 6-2 record, concluding in a league championship. French's role as owner commenced in 1998, when he joined the partnership group and now holds majority ownership in the Wings organization.

The Wings will open the 2013 season at home against the Buffalo Bandits at Wells Fargo Center on Friday, January 11 at 7 p.m. Tickets for all Wings 2013 home games are available by phone at 215-389-WING or online at WingsLAX.com.
