Philadelphia Wings Drop Thriller to Edmonton Rush

The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) fell to 1-3 at home and 3-5 overall in an 8-6 loss to the undefeated Edmonton Rush. Philadelphia held the Rush to two goals in the second half, but could not amount a comeback.

Edmonton showed why they have been the best team in the league from the initial face-off. The Rush took a 4-1 lead in the opening frame. Forward Riley Loewen tallied two goals and one assist to pace Edmonton. Philadelphia had a lone goal from Forward Tracey Kelusky. The Wings' defense found their legs during the second quarter. Philadelphia limited the Rush to two goals and 12 shots. Transition Player Kyle Sweeney added a score for the Wings to keep them in reach heading to halftime. Philadelphia trailed 6-2 with two quarters of play left.

Another solid defensive stand for the Wings took place in the third quarter. Philadelphia won head-to-head in the quarter and did not allow an Edmonton goal. Forward Kevin Crowley recorded his first goal of the evening for the only score in the third. The Rush carried a 6-3 lead into the final stanza.

Edmonton closed out the game to continue their undefeated season. Philadelphia outscored the Rush in the second half 4-2, but could not overcome the first half deficit.

"It was a disappointing weekend to drop both games," said Head Coach Blane Harrison. "We are a little banged up. This is our last back-to-back weekend this season. We look to regroup with some rest and compete in the second half of the season."

The Wings travel to Buffalo for their final face-off in the regular season against the Bandits. Philadelphia visits the First Niagara Center on Saturday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m. The Wings make their way back to Philadelphia when they face the Minnesota Swarm at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday, February 23 at 4 p.m.
