Philadelphia Wings News Release

The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) completed their initial training camp this past weekend at Bucksmont Indoor Sports Center in Hatfield, PA to commence the 2014 NLL season.

The coaching staff invited 37 players; 33 runners and four goalies to participate in this year's camp. Of those 37 players, 20 will receive roster spots with an additional four being added as practice players. This season's training camp was preceded by a free agent and rookie camp on Sunday, November 17. From that camp, nine players were invited to take part in the official training camp.

Players invited as free agents, Pat Saunders and Kyle Buchanan, impressed with their abilities on offense. Saunders last played for the Minnesota Swarm and Buchanan with the Vancouver Stealth.

"Of the nine players we brought in from free agent camp, a couple have the potential to crack the lineup for playing time [this season]," said Wings Head Coach Blane Harrison.

Other newcomers who look to play roles as key contributors for the upcoming season include veterans Tracey Kelusky and Evan Kirk.

"Tracey [Kelusky] has a high lacrosse IQ and knows how to win," said Harrison. "He has won two NLL championships and his presence in the locker room will be a welcome addition. "We are also happy with how our goaltenders looked in camp. Evan [Kirk] is meeting our expectations with his solid play."

Wings Captain Brodie Merrill showed his veteran leadership, arriving to camp in top shape. Merrill set the pace for most of the drills and running exercises. All of the veterans took camp seriously as they set their sights on competing for a record seventh NLL Championship in 2014.

"We are looking to turn the corner as a team this season," said Merrill. " We want to have a team the city of Philadelphia can be proud of."

The team will play three exhibition scrimmages in December against the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday, December 7 beginning at 12 p.m. and Sunday, December 8 at 10 a.m. at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, NY. The final scrimmage takes place against the Toronto Rock on Saturday, December 21 at 7 p.m. at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Toronto, ON.

The Philadelphia Wings will host the Buffalo Bandits at Wells Fargo Center for their 2014 season home opener on Sunday, January 12, at 4 p.m. Single game tickets for the Philadelphia Wings 2014 NLL season are available now exclusively by calling 215-389-WING (9464) or by visiting WingsLAX.com.
