
Philadelphia Union Re-Sign Defender Fabinho

CHESTER, Pa. - The Philadelphia Union have re-signed defender Fabinho ahead of the 2016 season, the club announced Friday. Per club and league policy, additional details were not disclosed.
"Fabinho adds depth to our back line and we are happy to have him back with us ahead of the 2016 season," Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Earnie Stewart said. "We have spent a great deal of time looking to strengthen our back line during this off-season and we are confident that Fabinho's veteran experience will add value on the field and in the locker room."
Fabinho, 30, joined the Union on June 28, 2013 as a free transfer and has appeared in 59 games and started 52, notching two goals and seven assists in regular season play during his three seasons with the club. In 2015, Fabinho scored two goals and gave three assists in all competitions, including the game-winning goal against D.C. United in the Round of Sixteen in the U.S. Open Cup.
Prior to joining the Union, Fabinho played in the Australian A-League for Melbourne Victory in 2011 and Sydney FC in 2012. He's also played for various clubs in South America, including Londrina, Coritiba, J. Malucelli, Ponte Preta, Paysandu, Mixto and Volta Redonda. He turned professional in 2005.
In 2016, the Philadelphia Union will open its seventh season in Major League Soccer at Talen Energy Stadium. The season opener will be at FC Dallas on March 6, with home opener coming two weeks later on March 20 against New England Revolution.
