The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League announced today they have signed free agent quarterback Tim Levcik. The team also announced that they have released wide receiver/defensive back Van Johnson.
Levcik (6-5, 215) was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers after joining the league as a rookie free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2002. Levcik was waived by the Dolphins but resigned to the team's practice squad.
A four-year letterman at Robert Morris University, Levcik was a three-time All-Northeast Conference selection and was the league's Offensive Player of the Year in his junior and senior season. Levcik was also named Newcomer of the Year as a freshman in 1998. Levcik completed 537 of 970 passes in his career for the Colonials for 7,222 yards and 76 TDs.
The Soul have opened their training camp for the 2004 season and will open the season at home against New Orleans on February 8 at 3 p.m. Season ticket plans are on sale now and can be purchased for as low as $80. For more information on season tickets call 1-888-PHIL-AFL.
