CLEVELAND, OHIO -- The Cleveland Force traveled to the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and were defeated by the defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champions Philadelphia KiXX by a final score of x-x tonight at the First Union Spectrum.
With the loss, Cleveland fell to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the MISL Eastern Conference. With the win, the KiXX improved to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the MISL Eastern Conference.
Philadelphia opened the scoring (0-2) when Kevin Sloan scored the shoot out and power play goal at the 1:26 mark of the first quarter. The KiXX added to its lead (0-4) when Don D'Ambra beat Jim Larkin and scored the two-point goal from the assist of Peter Pappas at 12:13.
Philadelphia added to its lead (0-6) when D'Ambra scored his second goal of the game off the pass from Goran Vasic with just 15 seconds gone in the second quarter. The Force ended the 6-0 run (2-6) when Hector Marinaro scored the two-point goal off the assist from Giuliano Oliviero at 1:07. The goal marked the 50th straight game that Marinaro has scored at least a point. The assist for Oliviero marked his 200th career assist. Cleveland scored the power play goal (4-6) when Marinaro scored his second goal of the game off the second assist of the game for Oliviero at the 8:24 mark. The Force tied the game on the power play goal (6-6) by Nevio Pizzolitto off the team season-high tying third assist in a game for Oliviero at the 9:57 mark. Philadelphia regained the lead (6-8) when Pat Morris scored the power play goal at the end of the first half.
The KiXX scored the first points of the second half (6-11) when Les Lunsford scored the three-point goal from feed of Vasic at the 13:26 mark.
Cleveland cut into the lead (9-11) when Eric Kvello scored the three-point goal at the 2:50 mark of the final quarter. The goal marked the first goal of the season for Kvello. The Force tied the game for the second time (11-11) when Marinaro recorded the hat trick off the rebound shot and assist of Pizzolitto at 5:22. Philadelphia regained the lead (11-13) when Sloan scored his second goal of the game off the assist from Joe Scigliano.
Cleveland will next play host to the Harrisburg Heat in a MISL Eastern Conference game on Friday, October 22nd at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University. The game is scheduled to start at 7:35 p.m. and will mark the first time the Force and Heat will face each other this season.
