
Philadelphia Cruises Past Rochester, 19-15, After Being Behind 14-8

(Villanova, PA- June 26, 2004) The Philadelphia Barrage, a Charter Member of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), defeated the Rochester Rattlers, 19-15, tonight at Villanova Stadium in front of 2,074 fans. The Barrage recorded their first ever win against Rochester, while also picking up their first win on their new home field. Keith Cromwell earned himself the Bud Light MVP of the game, scoring a total 8 points (6g, 2a). Greg Cattrano had a spectacular night, as he registered 11 saves as well as becoming the first goalie in MLL history to score a goal.
The first quarter started out with a behind the back goal by Rochester Rattler's Ryan Powell. Philadelphia's newest MLL star, Ryan Boyle helped to register the Barrage's first two points of the night with a goal and an assist to Cromwell's goal at 9:48. Cromwell's goal marks his 100th career point. Ryan Powell netted his second goal of the night with an assist from Casey Powell. Blake Miller and Cromwell then went on a scoring rampage with two goals from Miller and two assists from Cromwell in just 1:34. Josh Coffman scored for Rochester at 2:24, followed by a goal from Brent Rothfuss. Philadelphia had a total of 6 different players' record points in the first quarter, leaving the score at the end of the first stanza, 7-5, Philadelphia.
Rochester scored five unanswered goals (two in the first, three in the second) before Philadelphia could get back on the score board. AJ Shannon had a goal with an assist from Ryan Powell, followed by a goal from Coffman with an assist from Casey Powell. Ryan Moran tallied his second unassisted goal of the night at 8:58. Ryan Powell scored his fourth point of the game at 6:15, giving Rochester their first lead of the game, 9-8. Chris Schiller added one more goal for the Rattlers with yet another assist from Casey Powell with 40.5 seconds remaining in the first half.
The Rattlers led going into the second half, 10-8. Just 35 seconds into the quarter, Ryan Powell added another to the Rochester score. The Rattlers went on a three goal scoring streak before Philadelphia could fire a shot past goalie Tillman Johnson. Doug Shanahan recorded his first goal of the night at 4:55, with BJ Prager scoring just 32 seconds after. Cromwell then registered his 104th career point with an assist from Boyle, his fifth point of the game.
Cromwell opened up the fourth quarter with a goal only 24 seconds in, netting two more goals after this to bring Philadelphia back into the game. Cattrano was the next player to add a goal to the score board, tying the game 15-15. Cattrano is the only goalie in MLL history to have scored a goal. At Brown, Cattrano scored three goals, taking the title of All Time NCAA Point Leader for a goalie. Prager recorded his second goal of the night, taking the lead back for Philadelphia. Mike Mollot then added another point to the score board, creating a two point lead. Philadelphia shut out Rochester 8-0 in the fourth quarter, leading to the Barrage's first home win as well as their first win ever against Rochester.
After tonight, Philadelphia advances 2-4, while Rochester falls 3-3 The Barrage will play the Boston Cannons on July 10th at Nickerson Field at 7:00 PM.
