Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants announced Monday the name of their new mascot, Ringer.
Ringer was chosen by an online fan poll conducted over the last five days. The name received over 1,900 vote, good for 54% of the vote. Ringer beat out two other nominations, Phreddy and Rocky.
Prior to the vote, fans were invited to submit ideas for a new mascot name. The Pheasants front office staff sifted through over 200 submissions and determined the final three nominees for the online poll. Ringer was a popular name from the beginning as 18 different fans submitted the name.
Cory Myers of Sioux Falls was the first to submit the name suggestion and will receive a grand prize package from the Pheasants. The other 17 fans who submitted the name will receive a runner-up prize pack.
"We are thrilled with the community response for the mascot name contest," Pheasants CEO and managing partner Gary Weckwerth said. "I'm sure adults and kids alike will find their interaction with Ringer one of the highlights of coming to the ballpark. Plus, with a name like `Ringer' we know we have not only a great name for a pheasant but someone we can put in the ballgame if needed."
Ringer will not be on the official roster, according to Pheasants manager Steve Shirley. However, Ringer will be on hand for all home games this season, including Opening Night at 7:05 p.m. at Sioux Falls Stadium on Thursday, May 13.
The Pheasants are members of the American Association, a 10-team independent professional baseball league that will play its fifth season this summer. Group tickets and the all new "E-Z Game Tickets" are now available by calling (605) 333-0179. Fans can also visit the Pheasants at www.sfpheasants.com for more information.
