Phantoms taking part in Air Force water survival

Several members of the Philadelphia Phantoms will be participating in an Air Force Water Survival training exercise in which the team will be stranded on the water for an extended period of time and be rescued by helicopters in conjunction with the Coast Guard.

The purpose of the exercise, also known as S.E.R.E. (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape), is to train Air Force pilots on how to cope with being stranded in the water if they are shot down during combat. Air Force Staff Sergeant James Goyet will oversee the operation.

Among the players expected to participate are Freddy Meyer, Randy Jones, Ben Eager, Ben Stafford, Tony Voce, Joey Hope, R.J. Umberger, B.J. Abel, Stephen Wood, Jeff Smith, Josh Gratton, Mark Murphy, Brent Robinson, Nick Deschenes and Wade Skolney. Phantoms assistant coaches Kjell Samuelsson and Craig Berube will also be taking part.
