Phantoms play with old rivals

August 4, 2005 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New Hampshire Phantoms News Release

Hampstead, July 4 - The NH Phantoms play at Western Mass Pioneers in the USL Division II this Sunday Aug 7th from 6 pm. This will be the fourth game in the season between the arch rivals. The Pioneers have won the first three (3:1, 3:1 and 2:1). The games between these two sides have been quite intense and passionate in the last years and there is no reason to expect anything less again.

Main danger in the Western Mass side is attacking duo Neil Krause and Rigels Qosa. Each of them has netted eight goals so far. Both Krause and Qosa were on target for the last win over the Phantoms last Wednesday in Keene.

Western Mass Pioneers have secured their place in the playoffs together with Charlotte Eagles, Harrisburg City Islanders, and Wilmington Hammerheads. However the Pioneers have a game in hand and a good chance to battle for the top of the table.

The Phantoms have moved to 7th place in the table after their 2:0 win over the Cincinnati Kings last Saturday. Scorer of both of the goals Tom McNeil was announced in the Team of the Week selection together with Ricky Charles, who put strong performance in the middle and assisted for one of the goals.

GM Jim DeDeus said: "We play now game for game and this has its advantages as the team is not under enormous pressure. On the contrary - the pressure is on the Western Mass side, who are expected to win and to finish top of the table. But we might have couple of surprises for the Pioneers."

The Phantoms play their last game of the competition on Saturday Aug 13th against the Long Island Rough Riders. The game is at George Larkin field on the campus of SNHU, kick off is at 7'30 pm.
