CHICAGO - The Youngstown Phantoms (7-10-1,15pts) won their second game in a row as they beat the Chicago Steel (7-10-3,17pts) 3-1. With the win the Phantoms have now pulled within two points of Chicago in the Eastern Conference. Nilan Nagy scored his first career goal and Ty Loney recorded an assist for his seventh point in five games.

After a scoreless nineteen minutes the Phantoms struck with under a minute to play to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. With thirty seconds remaining John Fritsche found the back of the net with the assists going to both Chris Bradley and Adam Berkle. Phantoms netminder Matt O'Connor started his ninth game in a row and stopped all seven shots he faced during the period.

The Phantoms quickly added to their lead at the 3:17 mark as Nagy scored his first career USHL goal giving the Phantoms a 2-0 lead. The assists on the goal went to Justin Stevens and Loney. The Steel closed the gap to one just over two minutes later as Jay Camper beat O'Connor. The Phantoms outshot the Steel thirteen to six at the end of the second period.

"We played a good 55 minutes," said Head Coach Curtis Carr. "We played within our systems and got a hard fought win. We picked up two big points in the east."

The third period saw only one penalty and one goal as Berkle scored an empty net goal with under a minute to play. The Phantoms outshot the Steel 27-20 and both teams combined for only ten penalty minutes over the sixty minute contest. The Phantoms' win gives them two in a row going into tomorrow's game against the Muskegon Lumberjacks (7-6-4,18pts) tomorrow at 5:15 p.m. (EST).

"It is always important to win your conference games," said Carr. "We need to capitalize on some more of our opportunities but we did a lot of good things going into tomorrow."
