Phantoms and AHL Hand Out Annual Awards

(Philadelphia, April 6, 2002) - The Philadelphia Phantoms handed out their annual team awards prior to Saturday's 4-2 victory over the Norfolk Admirals at the First Union Spectrum. Seven awards in total were handed out by the organization, as well as two American Hockey League awards to defenseman John Slaney. The team presentations were made by Flyers Assistant General Manager Paul Holmgren, while the AHL's Sean Lavoine was on hand to present the league awards.

For the second consecutive season, Slaney was honored with the Eddie Shore Award as the league's top defenseman, as well as another AHL First-Team All-Star ring. The Barry Ashbee Award for best Phantoms defenseman also went to Slaney.

Rookies won three of the team awards, as James Chalmers took home the Community Service Award, Jim Vandermeer captured the Most Coachable Player Award and Guillaume Lefebvre won the Rookie of the Year Award. Second-year defenseman Bruno St. Jacques was honored as the Most Consistent Player, while Dan Peters was named the Phantoms' Man of the Year.

Neil Little was voted as the Fans' Choice Award winner through online voting at the Phantoms website, www.phantomshockey.com . It is the fourth time Little has won the award in the six-year history of the franchise.

The Phantoms have secured a place in the 2002 Calder Cup playoffs beginning next week, and finish the regular season Sunday night in Hershey. The game will be televised live on CN8 at 6:00 p.m.
