(Peterborough, ON) - Scheduler for the Peterborough Girls Hockey Association (PGHA) Laura Merrick is recognized as this week's exceptional minor hockey volunteer. The Petes want to celebrate local minor hockey volunteers for their contribution to the planning, organizing and execution of local minor hockey's return to the play this season.

Merrick's job of coordinating schedules and making sure every player in the PGHA receives fair ice time has allowed all Ice Kats to have a hockey-filled fall and winter despite Covid-19 restrictions. She is celebrated by her PGHA colleagues for her efficiency, class, dedication to planning and for having the best interests of the players in mind.

"She will only hear how the times are good, the schedule is inaccurate and that it isn't perfect. She is a volunteer that has gone over and above this season," says PGHA coach Michael Jacobs.

Each week the Petes will recognize and celebrate one volunteer from the PMHC, PHA, PGHA, and local adaptive hockey organizations who acknowledges that this hockey season has required additional time and effort to ensure a safe return for players to the rink.

The Petes welcome players, parents and other members of the minor hockey community to nominate deserving local volunteers by filling out this form .

Every Thursday Petes fans are encouraged to tune in to the Peterborough Petes Facebook page for Thursday Night Live (TNL). Each episode of TNL features an exclusive Q&A with special celebrity guests, a musical performance, merchandise offers, and the opportunity to win prizes.
