Mississippi Surge News Release

With their two scrimmages behind them now, the Mississippi Surge is now clearly focused on the upcoming Southern Professional Hockey League season.

Pensacola downed the Surge, 6-3 in a preseason scrimmage on Saturday in Pensacola. Mississippi coach Jeff Bes now turns his attention to reducing the Surge preseason roster to the SPHL regular season limit of 18 players (16 skaters and two goaltenders).

"No job is safe," Bes said. "We're working toward the future and looking to bring in the best players possible. The trickle-down effect from the higher leagues is definitely kicking in, and we are expecting to get some good players in here as a result."

The Surge begins the regular season on Thursday, October 20th at Augusta, and the team will host a watch party at Hooters Biloxi Beach at 6:30 p.m. The home opener is Friday, October 28th against Huntsville at 7:05 p.m.

Season tickets for the 2011-12 Surge season are on sale now, with plans starting for less than $10 per game. For more information call the Surge at 228-287-PUCK (7825).
