Augusta RiverHawks News Release

Fayetteville, NC - The Augusta RiverHawks took to the road to take on the Fayetteville FireAntz for their first and last exhibition game Saturday night. With the game marking the conclusion of the 'Hawks' Training Camp, many on the roster were hungry to solidify their spot on the Team.

The 'Hawks came out firing, testing FireAntz netminder Jeff Rose with eleven shots in the first stanza. However, only one puck in the period found its way to the back of the net; a shot from Fayetteville's Brett Needham, putting Fayetteville ahead 1-0 heading into the middle frame.

The FireAntz elected to put replace Rose with netminder Matt Hache, as the second period began. But, it would be the 'Antz, adding to their lead at 12:45, as Andrew Willock got a shot past Augusta goaltender, David Wilson. Despite adding nine shots to their total, the RiverHawks remained scoreless through two.

For the final period, Augusta replaced Wilson with Peter Skoggard in net. The RiverHawks were held to only a few shots despite their two-goal deficit. But, Skoggard stood strong and did not allow the FireAntz' ten shots to get past him. As the clocked ticked down to the final seconds in regulation, the RiverHawks continue to try to erase the zero in their goals column, but were not able to do so. The final score, Fayetteville 2, RiverHawks 0.

The RiverHawks will take to the ice next on Thursday, October 20 at 7:35PM as they open the SPHL season at the James Brown Arena with a rematch of last season's President's Cup Finals against the reigning League champions, the Mississippi Surge.
