Louisiana IceGators News Release

Pensacola, Fla.- -The Louisiana IceGators ran into a buzzsaw Tuesday night.

Despite a late comeback attempt, the IceGators could not overcome an early 3-0 deficit, falling to the undefeated Pensacola IceFlyers 4-2 in the Pensacola Civic Center. IceFlyers center Paul Rodrigues scored twice in the victory.

The two teams meet again Friday night in Pensacola. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

"We were outworked until the last 10 minutes of the game," IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli said. "It was great to see the guys didn't quit, but we need to figure out how to put together a complete 60 minute game. We were not disciplined, and it cost us."

Rodrigues opened the scoring at the 13:16 mark of the first period off assists from Mitchell Good and Daniel Sova.

Three minutes later, Shawn McNeil had an opportunity to tie the game when he was awarded a penalty shot, but he missed on his attempt.

Pensacola kept its momentum going in the second period.

Adam Pawlick scored off a Corey Banfield feed 12 seconds into the frame to put the IceFlyers up by two. Rodrigues scored his second goal of the night with 57 seconds left in the period on a power play off assists from Sova and Drew Akins.

The IceGators surged in the third period.

Chris Wilson put the IceGators on the board at the 9:14 mark off an assist from Chris Wilson. Benjamin Rubin scored off a Jeremy Boyer feed at the 14:25 mark to make it a 3-2 game.

Pensacola's insurance goal came with only three seconds remaining in regulation when Corey Banfield scored on an empty net.

Omicioli says he and his team are still tweaking the roster and their systems to reach their full potential.

"This team is on the verge of being a powerhouse," Omicioli said. "We just need to fine-tune some things to get us to the next level."
