ASHEVILLE, N.C., April 3, 2004 - Desmond Penigar poured in a NBDL season-high 42 points and the Altitude needed every one as they escaped the Huntsville Flight in a 126-115 overtime victory at the Asheville Civic Center Saturday night.

The Altitude, who led for most of the game, almost let things slip away from them with four missed free throws late in the fourth quarter, allowing Huntsville to take a 105-100 lead with 1:01 remaining in the game. Asheville closed regulation with a 5-0 run to force overtime. They took over in the extra period, outscoring the Flight 21-10 to secure the win and a one and a half game lead over the second place Charleston Lowgators.

"Down five with a minute left, we were dead in the water, but our guys played smart," said Asheville Head Coach Joey Meyer. "I was really pleased with the way we finished tonight."

This was the second consecutive game that Asheville and Huntsville needed extra minutes to decide the outcome. Huntsville won the last match-up between the two clubs in double overtime. Tonight?s win guarantees a home game in the opening round of the playoffs for the Altitude who currently boast a seven-game home winning streak.

"This is a tough team and this win against them gives us a lot of confidence going into the end of the season and the playoffs," said Altitude Player of the Game Desmond Penigar.

In addition to his lofty point total, Penigar grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and two steals. Kareem Reid, Lavor Postell and Brandon Kurtz did their part with 17 points each. Kurtz also pulled down eight rebounds and Reid dished out a game-high seven assists. Brandin Knight added 11 points and five points for the Altitude, who shot 52.2 percent from the field.

Three Huntsville players scored more than 20 points in the loss, including Rod Grizzard with 23, Alex Scales with 22 and Erick Barkley with 20 points. Grizzard also grabbed eight rebounds, but was out-done by his teammate Rodney Bias who muscled down a game-high 15 boards. The Flight struggled from three-point range, connecting on just 2-of-12 baskets from long range.

The Altitude will have travel to Columbus to face the Riverdragons Friday night at the Columbus Civic Center, a team they are 4-4 against this season. Huntsville, who has now lost two consecutive games, will try to get back on track when they host Columbus tomorrow.
