Penguins Re-Sign Carter Rowney

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Carter Rowney to an American Hockey League contract for the 2015-16 season.

Rowney began last season with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, compiling seven points (1G-6A) in just five games. Recalled to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Nov. 5, 2014, Rowney enjoyed a breakout season with the Penguins. The 26-year-old from Sexsmith, Alberta played in 63 contests with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and reached double digits in goals (10), assists (21) and points (31). He also collected two goals and two assists in eight Calder Cup playoff games.

As a rookie in 2013-14, Rowney was tied for third on the Nailers with 44 points (13G-31A) despite skating in just 39 contests. He also registered two goals and two assists in 24 games for the Penguins before adding two assists in two postseason appearances.

Now entering his third year as a pro, Rowney made his professional debut with the Abbotsford Heat (AHL) on Apr. 13, 2013, following his senior season at the University of North Dakota. In four years with the Fighting Sioux, he totaled 73 points (32G-41A) in 150 games and helped lead the team to three consecutive WCHA championships (2009-11).
