Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks were ten-for-ten on the penalty kill Thursday, but the Youngstown Phantoms' even-strength scoring was enough to push them to a 4-3 win at the Covelli Center.
Waterloo took the lead with Tony Cameranesi's power play goal at 8:52 of the opening period. Cameranesi's blast came after a failed Phantoms clearing attempt. The Hawks made it 2-0 during a delayed penalty situation three-and-a-half minutes later. Eddie Wittchow's shot from the left point bounced through traffic to Taylor Cammarata, who flipped it in. The Phantoms got one back at 15:55 as Alexander Dahl found a loose puck in the slot and sent it to the back of cage.
Austin Cangelosi tied the score for the Phantoms 34 seconds into the middle period, speeding through the left wing circle and sending a backhander past Jay Williams. It was the only goal of the frame in spite of two separate two-man advantages for Youngstown.
The Phantoms took the lead for the first time 23 seconds into the third period with the first of two goals by Mike Ambrosia. Aaron Pearce answered with a shorthanded score at 3:57, but Ambrosia notched the game winner one-on-one against Williams, set up by Cangelosi at 12:10. The Hawks outshot the Phantoms 32-29 and finished the game one-for-three on their power play chances.
Waterloo concludes a sequence of four straight road games Saturday in Cedar Rapids. The following afternoon, the team returns to Young Arena for a matchup with the Des Moines Buccaneers. Tickets for the 3:05 Sunday contest are available from waterlooblackhawks.com.
