Twin City Cyclones News Release
The Pee Dee Cyclones of the Southern Professional Hockey League have released their new team logo which consists of an angry, stick-wielding woodpecker, named Cy, on top of a cyclone. The new logo incorporates the team's colors which will be red, white, and blue.
In addition, Cyclones Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations, Mark Richards, announced that veteran left wing, Eric Naud, is the first player that has agreed to terms with the SPHL club. Naud, 27, is a native of LaSalle, Quebec. The 6'-1", 210 pound forward was a former draft choice of the Boston Bruins in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. Since the 2000-01 hockey season, he played most of his professional hockey career in Florence with the former Pee Dee Pride of the ECHL. Eric began his pro career in 1997 with the Charlotte Checkers. He also played for Jacksonville & Pensacola in the ECHL before calling Florence home. Naud also played for Providence (AHL), Abilene (WPHL), Detroit (IHL), and Columbus (UHL).
Last season, Eric Naud played for the Pee Dee Pride. In 55 games played he scored 6 goals and 12 assists for 18 points and added 140 penalty minutes. In eight pro seasons, he has played in 441 games scoring 88 goals and 132 assists for 220 points and has earned 1444 penalty minutes. "We are extremely pleased to announce the signing of Eric," said Cyclones coach Mark Richards. "We wanted an impact player to be the first Cyclones player and I believe we have achieved that goal. Eric is a big, strong guy who will bring instant credibility to our club both on and off the ice."
The Pee Dee Cyclones logo was designed by Erik Byrd from Sign Sational of Florence, South Carolina. "We are very pleased with the new logo and hope the sports fans of the Pee Dee like it," said Cyclones team owner, Dr. Richard Hoodenpyle. "After extensive research we have learned that Cy the woodpecker likes to create Havoc and enjoys a diet of Ice Bears, Cottonmouths, Barracudas, Seals, and regards eating Fire Antz as gourmet dining." The team's jerseys and website will be unveiled later this summer and the Cyclones 2005-06 schedule will be released by the end of July. The team will play 28 home games at the Florence Civic Center beginning in late October. Season tickets are on sale at the Cyclones office or by calling 843-432-1234.
