Peanuts Take Series from Redfish

South Georgia Peanuts News Release


The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, won the first series of the current road trip by beating the Charlotte County Redfish 3-0 Friday night. Doc Brooks hit his tenth home run of the season while Mike Colacchio pitched four innings of scoreless ball to pick up his third win of the season.

There was no scoring in the game during the first three innings of the game. After a rain delay that lasted more than an hour, Redfish manager Cecil Fielder elected to leave starting pitcher Celson Polanco in the ballgame. Brooks led the inning off by hitting one of the longest home runs anyone has hit this season beyond the left field fence.

The Peanuts picked up a couple insurance runs in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Nick Prosise singled to right field scoring Curtis Goodwin. Jasha Balcom then singled home Brooks. The inning could have produced more runs but there was a controversial play at the plate where home-plate umpire Jim Clark called Joey Hooft out. Both Hooft and acting manager Larry Olenberger argued the call for quite some time.

Mike Colacchio picked up the win as he came into the ballgame after the rain delay. Colacchio pitched four innings scattering seven hits but did not allow a run. Jared Doyle pitched a perfect eight striking out the side. Drew Shetrone pitched the ninth and allowed the Redfish to load the bases but got out of it on a double play on a grounder to Johnny Washington.

Brooks led the way for the Peanuts going 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Hooft and Prosise also had two hits on the day.

The Peanuts look for the season sweep at Charlotte Sports Park on Saturday night. Austin Weilep will get the start for the Peanuts. First pitch is set for 7:05. The game can be heard in South Georgia on "1450 The Fan" and online at southgeorgiapeanuts.com.
