Paxton's Pair Of RBI Is Enough For Black Bears In 2-1 Win Over Sweets

Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Walla Walla: July 17, 2012: A breakout day at the plate by Nick Paxton and a great combined pitching performance by the Cowlitz Black Bears was enough for the steam to defeat the Walla Walla Sweets 2-1 in the series opener.

Paxton had a sacrifice fly to put the Black Bears ahead in the second inning. Drew Luther (Fullerton JC) walked with one out, moved over to second on a balk, and got to third before Paxton brought him in.

After a Sweets run in the third, Matt Ozanne (Santa Clara) led off the fourth with a double. After moving over to third on a bunt, he was brought in on a sharply hit single by Paxton.

Koby Gauna (Cal St Fullerton) got the win after allowing just one run in seven innings. Cody Rogina (UC Riverside) pitched an inning and a third of scoreless ball and Leko Galusha (Lower Columbia) got the last two outs for the save.

The Black Bears next home game is Friday, July 20th against the Wenatchee AppleSox. It will also be the third annual Gallery of Diamonds Diamond Dig! The first 200 women through the gate will dig for diamonds after the game.
