Pauly Nets Two Goals: Monsters Top Wild, 4-3

FRESNO, Calif. - ShawnPauly (Bellingham, Wash.) scored two goals, but the Fresno Monstersdefeated the Wenatchee Wild Friday night at the Selland Aren, 4-3. It wasFresno's first ever win over Wenatchee.

The Monsters held a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play behinda pair of power-play goals. T.J. Powers opened up scoring near the 5-minutemark during the Monsters' first man-advantage, which he scored on a reboundright in front of the net. Thomas Freeman then gave Fresno a 2-goal lead withless than 30 seconds remaining in the first period when he lit the lamp onanother rebound chance.

The Wild evened the score, 2-2, in the second stanza. Paulygot the Wild on the scoreboard at 11:21. After causing a turnover behind theFresno cage, Carl-Johan Sjogren (Tumba,Sweden) slid a pass to Pauly in the slot. Pauly received the pass on hisbackhand, then scored on his forehand, beating Fresno netminder Tom Conlinblocker side on the shot. Ben Carey(Centennial, Colo.) tied up the contest with 5:33 remaining before the secondintermission during a man-advantage. After fishing the puck out of the nearcorner, Carey took the puck to the net. Conlin denied his first shot, but Careyscored on the rebound. Eliot Grauer(Mukioteo, Wash.) assisted.

Pauly gave the Wild its first lead 31 seconds into the thirdperiod. After the Monsters were called for icing, Pauly won a faceoff in theoffensive zone that led to two shots on goal. Pauly picked up the puck off the secondshot and beat Conlin stick side from the slot. D.J. Vandercook (Farmington Hills, Mich.) and Sjogren assisted.

Unfortunately for Wenatchee, Fresno came back with a pair ofgoals down the stretch to win, 4-3. Powers tied up the contest, 3-3, just pastthe midpoint of the third period. Walker Hyland then notched the game-winnerwith 7:13 left in regulation when he scored on a wrist shot from inside the farfaceoff circle during a power play.

Wild netminder NickKulmanovsky (Fairbanks, Alaska) made 28 saves on 32 shots, which included apair of saves on breakaways. Conlin stopped 32 of the Wild's 35 shots for hisfourth win of the season. Fresno scored three power-play goals on fouropportunities while Wenatchee went 1-for-6 on the man-advantage.

Pauly (2G) and Sjogren (2A), who are both riding 5-gamepoint streaks, led the Wild with two points apiece. Powers (2G, 1A) and Hyland(1G, 2A) each had three points for the Monsters.

The Wild (22-15-2) will try to even its series against theMonsters Saturday. Faceoff is slated for 7:35 p.m.
