Magicians Head Coach, Tom Upton, who coached O'Connor during his stint in Cedar Rapids had this to say about the news: " I had the privilege of coaching Paul for a part of last season in Cedar Rapids, he is a stand up young man and a very good hockey player. I am excited and proud that he has been asked to begin the season in the USHL. Our goal with the Magicians is to always assist our players to move on to great opportunities and we wish Paul the best of luck in Bloomington! They are receiving not only a top notch hockey player, but a great individual as well!"
