Hartford Colonials News Release

Paul Nanos, the popular and personable sports talk show host on ESPN Radio 1410, will be a guest judge on a panel that will select the 2011 Hartford Colonials Cheerleading Team on Saturday, May 21, at Black Bear Saloon in Hartford. The event is 4-7 p.m. with free admission.

A familiar voice to sports fans in the state, Nanos can be heard every weekday starting at 3 pm as host of "The Drive" on Hartford's Sports Leader.

"The Colonials made my day when they asked me to be a judge for the finals of their cheerleading competition," Nanos said. "After all, what guy wouldn't want to spend the night with dozens of beautiful women dancing for him."

Nanos began his radio career at WFAN in New York. He hosted the show "Nanos at Night" on WTEM Radio in Washington D.C., and spent four years as a producer of the nationally syndicated "Dan Patrick Show" on ESPN Radio.

"Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Paul at ESPN Radio in Hartford as we chatted about the audition process on the air. I had a great time, and his personality is fun and engaging," said Brittany Bonchuk, Director of the Colonials Cheerleading Team. "I could sense he had a great deal of interest in helping us select an awesome squad to represent the Hartford Colonials, so we are really excited to have him take part in our final audition show."

Each finalist will be asked to perform two dances, including a solo. The judges will evaluate the finalists on physical fitness and appearance, dance performance and ability, and overall showmanship and appeal.

The event will feature random trivia in which fans can win prizes. There will be drinks and appetizer specials. Black Bear Saloon is located on 187 Allyn Street, Hartford, 06103.
