(Rochester, NY)... After two years behind the Rochester Knighthawks bench, Paul Gait has been promoted by the organization to Vice President of Lacrosse. With the announcement, the Knighthawks will begin their search for a head coach for the 2011 season.

"Paul has spent his whole life in the lacrosse business as a player, coach and manufacturer," said Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres. "He has a lot to offer the sport and will help us with the front office in Rochester."

Gait, 43, guided the Knighthawks to a 14-18 record over two seasons and a berth in the 2009 NLL Playoffs. He was hired in December of 2008 as the franchise's fifth head coach. Gait now looks forward to his new role with a franchise that he helped establish in 1995.

"I would like to thank Curt for the opportunity to grow within the organization. This new position allows me to use both my playing and business experience to help bring greater improvement to an already successful organization," said Gait.

The Victoria, BC, native was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame in 2010 for leading the Knighthawks to two finals in three seasons (1995-97) as a player. In 1997 he guided the team to the Major Indoor Lacrosse League championship. The NLL Hall of Famer had an unprecedented 13-year playing career that began in 1991 and ended in 2005. He won titles in 1991 (Detroit), 1994 (Philadelphia) and 1997 (Rochester) and was named the league's MVP in 2002. Further, he was an eight-time First Team All-Pro and a three-time Second Team All-Pro.

In this new role, he will serve as a member of the senior management team for the Amerks/Knighthawks overall business operations. He will also have responsibility along with the general manager and president for the overall successful management of all lacrosse operations for the Knighthawks. Further, Gait will join the Knighthawks as an alternate governor and will become a primary liaison with the NLL on lacrosse operational matters.

"We are proud and excited to have Paul Gait join our front office management team here in Rochester," said Knighthawks President Lewis Staats. "Paul's accomplishments on the lacrosse floor as a player and coach speak for themselves and we are excited to bring his proven knowledge of the lacrosse business and his personal business acumen to our Amerks/Knighthawks management team."

His additional responsibilities include overseeing player recruitment, travel and practice schedules, preparing annual budgets for lacrosse operations, scouting and serving an integral role in ticket sales, corporate sales, marketing and community relations on behalf of the Knighthawks.

With Gait in the front office, the Knighthawks will immediately begin looking for a new head coach. Applications for the position can be sent to Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres at cstyres@me.com.
