
Pats Battle Wheat Kings on the Road

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats head to Westoba Place today and take on the Brandon Wheat Kings at 6:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. CDT)

The Regina Pats are coming off back-to-back losses on the road to Red Deer (4-2) and Calgary (7-3), finishing their three game Alberta road trip 1-2, falling to 2-3 on the season. During their five games, the Pats have been outscored 19-22, with the power play running at 14.3% and the penalty kill at 80.0%.
On Sunday in Calgary, the Pats dropped a 7-3 decision to the Hitmen. Jaxsin Vaughan and Alexander Suzdalev scored their first WHL goals while Tye Spencer recorded his third of the season. The final shots were 46-27 for Calgary, and 22-6 for the Hitmen in the first, as they led 4-0 after one period of play. The Pats made it a 5-3 game after two, but were unable finish the comeback in the third. The Pats finished 6-8 on the penalty kill and 3-4 on the power play.
For the Wheat Kings, they are currently 1-0-1-0 on the season, coming off a 4-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday, as they are in the middle of a four game homestand. Brandon will head on a an eight game road trip through Alberta and B.C. following their homestand coming to an end on Friday against Saskatoon.
In Brandon's 4-1 win, Charlie Elick, Calder Anderson, Evan Groening and Jake Chiasson had their goals, while being outshot 35-25 as Carson Bjarnason was stellar in the win, stopping 34 of 35.
The Brandon Wheat Kings are coming off a 35-28-3-2 season with 75 points, which was good for sixth in the Eastern Conference. The Wheat Kings lost to third seed Red Deer Rebels in round one in six games. Brandon has made the playoffs in 20 of the last 22 years, reaching the league finals four times, and winning once in 2015-16.

Last year, Brandon won the season series 5-2, as Regina went 1-3 at home and 1-2 on the road. During the season series, the Wheat Kings outscored the Pats 31-to-28. The Pats are 9-12-1-2 against Brandon since the 2018-19 season, with 13 of those 24 games being decided by one goal.

The Regina Pats acquired 2005-born forward Sam Oremba on Tuesday from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for 2023 2nd, 2024 1st and a 2025 3rd. The Regina, Sask. product scored 14 points (4G-10A) in 56 games last year in Seattle.
The club reassigned 2006-born defenceman Kolten Bridgeman to the Regina Pat Canadians after the acquisition of Sam Oremba on Tuesday...the Pats have now reassigned four players from their opening night roster (Almen, Bridgeman, Temple, Zacharias).
The Pats are dealing with several injuries, as Zack Stringer, Cole Dubinsky, Logan Linlater, Zane Rowan, Jakob Brook and Drew Sim are out of the lineup for today's game. Sunday, Carter Herman returned to the lineup, making his season debut. On the same day, Ty Plaisier made his WHL debut.
