Patriots surpass Altitude for 10th win, 102-80

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — David Young led all scorers with 26 points, which eased Fayetteville over Asheville on Friday night at Crown Coliseum, 102-80, giving the Patriots their 10th win of the season. The Patriots started the game with a spark over the Altitude 24-15 in the first quarter. Fayetteville maintained the lead, which even grew to as large as 28 points, throughout the rest of the game.

To compliment Young's 26 points, he also had seven rebounds and two assists. Head Coach Mike Brown was very pleased with his aggressive performance.

"I'm very happy to see they way he played. He played well and everyone ignited off of him," Coach Brown said. "He's the leading scorer on the team and established himself from the jump-off."

The Patriots used a different line-up against the Altitude with Greg Davis starting at point guard, who provided six points and four assists for Fayetteville. Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje also started and contributed 12 rebounds for the Patriots.

"I was very proud of how we came out," Head Coach Mike Brown said. "They came out excited, focused and ready to play."

Terrence Shannon was the leading scorer for Asheville with 21 points off the bench and was 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Ron Slay and Joe Forte also scored in double figures for the Altitude with 17 and 16 points respectively.

Mike King had 20 points off the bench for the Patriots, while George Williams and Jon Smith both had 10. Jon Smith also had the only double-double of the game with 10 rebounds. Omar Cook contributed 14 assists.

Fayetteville shot 54.1 percent from the field while Asheville only shot 41.3 percent. The Patriots also out-rebounded the Altitude 46-to-33, which greatly contributed to Fayetteville's victory.
