Columbus Riverdragons News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C., February 25 – The Columbus Riverdragons of the National Basketball Development League have claimed forward Randy Orr from the NBDL Available Player Pool and released forward/center Kitwana Rhymer, according to an announcement today by NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert and Riverdragons head coach Jeff Malone.

Orr, a 6-11, 210-pound, rookie forward from Georgia Perimeter College ('04) comes to Columbus after starting the 2004-05 season in the NBDL with the Huntsville Flight, where he appeared in 27 games with three starts. The Hampton, S.C. native averaged 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 13.6 minutes per game with Huntsville. Orr also hit 43% of his field goal attempts and 78% from the foul line prior to his release on February 9. A sixth-round draft pick (40th overall) by the Flight in the 2004 NBDL Draft, Orr posted a double-double against the Riverdragons on November 20 with 11 points and 12 rebounds at the Columbus Civic Center.

Originally an early entry candidate for the 2004 NBA Draft, Orr spent two seasons at Georgia Perimeter College in Decatur, Ga. after spending one season at Western Kentucky. As a sophomore in 2003-04, Orr averaged 12.2 points and 8.2 rebounds as the Jaguars finished with a 29-5 record overall and advanced to the NJCAA tournament. As a freshman in 2002-03, Orr averaged 11.4 points and 7.7 rebounds while shooting 67% from the floor, helping lead the Jaguars to an NJCAA tournament berth and a 32-6 mark overall.

Orr will be in uniform for the Riverdragons in their next game tomorrow, Saturday, February 26, as Columbus hosts the Florida Flame with a noon EST tip-off at the Columbus Civic Center. He will wear uniform #32.

Rhymer appeared in 31 games with five starts for Columbus. The 6-9, veteran forward/center from the University of Massachusetts averaged 22.2 minutes, 4.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 41% from the field and 72% from the free throw line. Rhymer currently ranks fifth in the NBDL in total blocked shots (47) and seventh in blocked shots average.

The Riverdragons (20-11) will look to return to the win column on Saturday afternoon versus the Flame. Columbus returns home following a 90-74 loss at Roanoke on Wednesday night that dropped the Dragons one-and-a-half games behind the Dazzle for first place in the NBDL standings. The Riverdragons have won six of the seven meetings so far with the Flame this season, including three straight wins over Florida between February 2 and February 5 at the Germain Arena.

Florida (8-24) will look to win its second straight over Columbus at the Civic Center, as the Flame captured a 99-95 victory over the Riverdragons in their last trip to Columbus on January 20. All the action can be heard live on WHAL 1460 AM in Columbus and Phenix City.
