Patriots Sign Local Baseball Instructor

Bridgewater, NJ - The 2001 Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of Bridgewater resident Duke Baxter for the 2002 season.

Baxter is a graduate of Bridgewater-Raritan High School and he teaches baseball instruction in Flemington, New Jersey.

He has two years of experience in the Northern League where he played for the Madison Black Wolf team. In 1997, Baxter had a .289 batting average and 15 RBI in 44 games played for Madison.

"Duke has the ability to play in many different positions for the team. The excitement surrounding him joining the Patriots has been incredible and we are certainly glad to give him the opportunity to play professional ball once again," said David Gasaway, General Manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.

Baxter will be a utility player who can play the infield or outfield for the Patriots during the season.

The Somerset Patriots 2002 season presented by Ford begins on Tuesday, May 7th at Commerce Bank Ballpark. The Patriots have announced that individual tickets, Season Tickets, and group tickets are now on sale by calling (908) 252-0700 or by stopping by the Patriots Ticket Office located at the ballpark.
