Fayetteville Patriots News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., July 17, 2003 – Friday and Saturdays bring about inspiration. For many Americans, Friday means the end of the workweek and Saturday means a day off. For the Fayetteville Patriots Friday and Saturdays meant 16 wins – 11 of them were at home – strong attendance and satisfied fans.

So it's no secret as to why 20 of the Patriots 23 home games in 2003-2004 will be played on either Friday or Saturday. The Patriots will open their weekend-heavy schedule will start on Saturday, Nov. 22 against the Roanoke Dazzle at 7:30 p.m.

The NBDL has shortened its schedule from 50 to 46 games. "Our fans want more weekend games,'' said Fayetteville Patriots team president Todd DeMoss.

"To make this happen we had to spread out the season over a longer period of time and cut the number of games. We listened to our fans who said they are more inclined to attend weekend games. We had to make it happen."

Last season the Patriots season ended on April 11 with a Game 3 Championship loss. The regular-season will end on April 10 this season.

Ten of the Patriots 28 home games last season were played on Saturdays. Average attendance on Saturday was 2,849. On the 10 Fridays the Patriots appeared at the Crown Coliseum, average attendance was 2,360.

Over the entire season the Patriots averaged 2,209 fans. In 35 games over two years, the Patriots average more 2,200 fans on Friday and Saturdays.

"This schedule gives us more time to develop these young man, and it gives people more of an opportunity to come see these talented young men strive toward the dream of playing in the NBA,'' Patriots coach Jeff Capel said.

In addition to the 20 Friday and Saturday home games, the Patriots play Huntsville on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.

After opening the season against the Dazzle, the Patriots will get a week off before playing the North Charleston Lowgators at the Crown Coliseum.

The Patriots longest homestand will be between Jan. 23-Feb. 13. In the five-game homestand, the Patriots will play all five of their opponents and all five games are on Friday or Saturday. The longest road trip is between Jan. 13-Jan. 19.

Led by NBA "call up" Devin Brown, the Patriots won the regular-season title last season with a 32-18 record. They fell three points shy of winning the NBDL Championship in the third and deciding game. The Patriots were 11-7 at home on Friday and Saturdays.

Capel and assistant Sam Worthen, the architects of the 2002-2003 team, return for a third season together as they try to duplicate last season's success. Season ticket plans start at $70. Walk-up prices range from $5-$20. For more information on tickets call 910-213-1000. For more information go to www.fayettevillepatriots.com.
