Patriots announce high school tripleheader on December 30

December 20, 2004 - NBA G League (G League)
Fayetteville Patriots News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., December 20 – The tradition of the Cumberland County Holiday Classic will continue with an addition of a new partner. The Fayetteville Patriots will play host to “Championship Day” on December 30 at the Crown Coliseum. The girls’ championship game will be played at 3 p.m., with the Patriots game starting at 6 p.m. The boys’ championship game will complete the triple-header.

The Holiday Classic begins December 27 and features eight Cumberland County Schools – Jack Britt, Cape Fear, Pine Forest, Terry Sanford, E.E. Smith, Seventy First, Westover and South View. The tournament was created in the 1980’s so that teams had the opportunity to continue play over the holidays while school was out.

“The partnership with the Patriots and the Crown Coliseum allows us to have the girls and boys tournaments simultaneously,” Cumberland County Student Activities Director Fred McDaniel said. “It is a better fit for us, and we can showcase our kids and allow the Patriots to showcase their team. The Championship Day will allow us to work together and expose fans to both products. Some of our fans may have not seen the Patriots yet, and vice versa.”

Tickets are only $6 per day for the first three days of the tournament, which can be purchased at the Crown Coliseum Box Office. For the December 30th Tripleheader, groups of 15 or more can receive $7 group tickets from the Patriots office through Dec. 29th. The $7 group tickets are also available at all eight participating high schools through the Athletic Director's office. The Patriots game will be nationally televised on NBATV and the first 500 fans will receive free T-shirts courtesy of Lumbee River EMC.

“The Holiday Classic “Championship Day” gives us the opportunity to add a little flair to an already well-established community event,” Fayetteville Patriots Team President Todd DeMoss said. “We are able to help the high schools showcase their championship games in the nicest building in town – the Crown Coliseum.”

For more information on the tournament or to purchase tickets, call the Patriots office at (910) 213-1000. The schedule for the tournament is outlined below.
