Patriots Announce Doubleheader with Pirates and Camels

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., August 28, 2002 – The Fayetteville Patriots and Campbell University have agreed to bring a basketball doubleheader event to the Crown Coliseum on December 21, Patriots team president Amy Perko announced today.

Campbell will play East Carolina in men's basketball at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup between the Patriots and their NBDL rival the Mobile Revelers at 7:30 p.m.

The doubleheader date is a part of the Patriots' season-ticket plan, including the 13-and-7-game plans. Group tickets are also available at discounted prices. Log on to www.fayettevillepatriots.com for more information on group ticket rates. Single-game tickets for the Dec. 21 game will go on sale Oct. 15. Tickets purchased for the Patriots-Revelers game will earn fans admission into the Campbell-ECU showdown. Call (910) 213-1012 for more information on all ticket plans.

The Patriots regular season starts Nov. 15. Season tickets to Patriots games are still available. Season-ticket plans start as low as $56. Single-game ticket prices range from $6-$21.

Prior to the start of the season, the Patriots will play North Charleston in an NBDL exhibition game on Nov. 12. On Oct. 15 the Washington Wizards will take on the Denver Nuggets in an NBA exhibition game.

The Patriots won their three final home games and split with the Revelers (3-3), a playoff team in 2002, during the regular season.

The Campbell Fighting Camels, who play their home games at Carter Gymnasium in Buies Creek, were 8-19 overall and 6-14 in the Atlantic Sun conference last season. Clinton native Jonte' Edwards is the Camels top returner. He averaged 14.9 points and and 5.8 rebounds per game last season, while shooting 55 percent from the field.

Fayetteville native Tarick Johnson also returns for Campbell. The Douglas Byrd graduate was the third-leading scorer for the Camels as a sophomore, averaging 13.8 points per game. Brooks Lee, who is Campbell head coach Billy Lee's son and a former Harnett Central High standout, led the team in assists (5.2 per game) and is the only returning player who started all 27 games for coach Lee during the 2001-2002 season.

The Pirates' first season in Conference USA came last season. They went 5-11 in conference play, including an upset win over a Louisville team led by coach Rick Pitino. The Pirates were 12-18 overall. Six-foot-six forward Erroyl Bing returns for the Pirates. He led the team in scoring and rebounding last season at 12.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He also shot 37 percent from 3-point range. Top assist man Travis Holcomb-Faye is also back.

The NBDL, the NBA's minor league includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), North Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Mobile Revelers (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), Greenville Groove (S.C.), and Asheville Altitude (N.C.). The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Eight NBDL players and one head coach were called up to the NBA during the NBDL's inaugural season and five executives have moved from NBDL teams to positions with major league organizations. Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 29 teams and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions in each NBDL city.
