Huntsville, Ala. - Rhett Parrott (2-3) allowed one run on three hits as he threw a season high eight innings in leading the Smokies (23-14) over Huntsville (22-14) Monday night at Joe Davis Stadium.
Luis Martinez (4-2) didn't allow a hit until Papo Bolivar's fourth inning single. Bucky Jacobsen had walked prior to the hit, and both scored when Yadier Molina's fly ball to right field was dropped by Ryan Knox. John Nelson followed with his first triple of the season to score Molina.
Jacobsen doubled home Skip Schumaker and Caonabo Cosme in the fifth inning to cap the scoring for Tennessee.
Parrott snapped a personal two-game losing streak by allowing a season low three hits. The Stars lone run scored in the first when Knox drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a Dave Krynzel single. Richard Paz's line drive to right was dropped by Chris Weekly, who threw to second to force out Krynzel, and Knox scored on the fielder's choice.
Parrott retired the final eight batters he faced and 22 of the last 25.
The Smokies and Stars conclude their series Tuesday afternoon at 1:05 EDT. Dan Haren (5-0, 0.94) will start for Tennessee opposite Pedro Liriano (3-3, 2.82).
