
BayBears routed by Carolina again

Mobile, Ala. â The Mobile BayBears dropped their second straight game to the Carolina Mudcats and seventh out of their last eight overall, as they fell, 10-1, Sunday night. After a 43-minute rain delay prior to the first pitch, Carolina came out swinging. The Mudcats plated five runs in the first, two in the third, and three more in the fourth. All of the runs came off of BayBears starter Steve Watkins. The right-hander threw three plus innings, giving up those 10 runs on 10 hits while walking two.
Mobile's lone run came in the sixth inning as Jon Knott hit a long solo homerun over the left field wall. The homer was Knott's team-leading sixth of the season.
On the positive side for the BayBears, the relief tandem of Duncan McAdoo and Chris Oxspring combined to throw six shutout innings of one-hit baseball. McAdoo entered in the top of the fourth and threw four scoreless frames, allowing just one hit while striking out six. Oxspring added two innings not allowing a baserunner, striking out one.
The BayBears and Mudcats will play game three of their series Monday night at 7:05. RHP Brad Baker (0-3; 6.93) will start for Mobile against Carolina's RHP Randy Messenger (1-3; 7.18).
