Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that the Florida Panthers have recalled forwards Shawn Matthias and Michal Repik. The pair will join the Panthers in New York City tonight as Florida takes on the New York Rangers from Madison Square Garden. Faceoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
Matthias, 21, receives his first promotion to the National Hockey League this season after scoring a goal and assisting on two others to help the Amerks improve to 14-2-1-0 in Rochester's 5-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch last night at The Blue Cross Arena. A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Matthias began the 2009-10 campaign with the Panthers, where he has one goal in five games. This season with the Amerks, the 6-foot-3, 180-pound forward has registered two goals and four assists for six points in 12 appearances. In 25 total NHL contests with the Panthers, he has collected five points (3+2) and four penalty minutes. Matthias is just two games shy of skating in his 100th professional game.
Repik heads to the big club for the third time this season. He leaves Rochester currently tied for fourth on the team with 12 points (6+6) and tied for fifth with an on-ice rating of plus-four. The second-year pro has scored one goal in four games this season with the Panthers. In his career, the Vlasim, Czech Republic, native has appeared in nine games with Florida, scoring three goals. Originally Florida's second-round selection (40thoverall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound Repik needs just three games to capture his 100th professional game.
Rochester heads north of the border on Tuesday, November 24th to battle the Hamilton Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum. The 7:30 p.m. contest will be the first in Hamilton this season and the second of 10 meetings between the North Division rivals. The matchup can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
