Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release
Baltimore, MD - After a pair of hard-fought home losses to begin their USSF D-2 Pro League season, Crystal Palace Baltimore will look for a change of fortune as they begin a five-game road swing at AC St Louis on Saturday night. Palace have an 0-2 record after their 3-1 defeat at the hands of league powerhouse Puerto Rico Islanders last weekend. AC St Louis are in a worse predicament having lost all four of their games thus far, the latest a 1-0 loss at the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Mathew Mbuta tallied Palace's only goal in that loss to the Islanders on a penalty kick, ending a four-game scoring drought for Baltimore that extended back into the previous season. Palace will be hoping to put their scoring woes behind them this weekend.
"We did some good thing in the first two games," said Palace Baltimore head coach Jim Cherneski as his side prepared for Saturday's clash. "But we missed the chances that we created. We've worked a lot on our finishing this week and the guys look sharp. We've also worked hard on our defensive shape and hopefully all these things will come together and we'll be able to go out and beat St Louis."
While Palace are still adjusting to the second tier after spending the past three years in USL-2, AC St. Louis - a fellow founding member of the new NASL - is in its inaugural season having been established in 2009. The Missouri club has shown flashes of it's potential, playing well for lengthy periods during its initial slate of games. But one major contributing factor to the team's early struggles has been injuries to several key players. However reports from St. Louis suggest that former MLS MVP and US National Team veteran Steve Ralston may be fit to play his first minutes for his hometown club after a long layoff due to ACL surgery. Local midfielder Mike Ambersley is also set to return after recovering from a right hip flexor strain.
The game kicks off at 7:10pm Central Standard Time (8:10pm Eastern) at Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park and the live video of the game is scheduled to be streamed on the web. Palace Baltimore fans can watch either on AC St. Louis' website - http://www.ac-stlouis.com - or at Palace Baltimore's video page http://live.palacebaltimore.com.
