Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release
Baltimore Md. - As Palace Baltimore (6-9-6) enter the final third of the season, they face Miami FC (2-8-9) for the second and final time in the regular season. The fixture, originally slated for Tuesday, August 3rd at 7:00 p.m., is now on Wednesday, August 4th at 2 p.m. at the Maryland SoccerPlex. With Baltimore scoring a league-low 16 goals and Miami allowing a league-high 32 goals, it is a tale of a team struggling to score goals against a team that can't seem to stop them.
With Vancouver, Portland, Rochester and Carolina still left to face in the last two months of the season, Palace's matchup against a struggling Blues squad provides them the opportunity to pick up points and also some ground on the Puerto Rico Islanders who currently occupy the last playoff spot with a game in hand.
Palace desperately needs to win games and can ill afford to drop any points to Miami. However, Miami have tied eight games this season and have proven tough to beat outright as Palace well know. In their last meeting, Palace squandered a two-goal lead in the final minutes of the game and drew 3-3 on another Wednesday night fixture in Miami.
Palace has put together some great performances at the SoccerPlex in the second half of the season, but have not been able to finish in front of net. Saturday was another example of that with Palace dominating large periods of their game against Montreal but were unable to connect on quality chances, eventually tying the game 1-1 against a 10-man Impact team.
Palace Baltimore will be without the services of striker and leading scorer, Randi Patterson. He is set to be transferred to the Austin Aztex later this week.
"We are very sorry to see Randi go," said Pete Medd, Palace Baltimore President. "Austin made us an offer we just couldn't refuse."
"It's a compliment to Randi that a team thinks that highly of him," Medd continued. "We wish him the best. He is the consummate pro and he has a bright future in professional soccer."
Baltimore travel back to the Stade Saputo in Montreal to face the Impact on Wednesday August 11th at 7:30 p.m. It will be the third time in three weeks that the two teams have faced one another.
