
Pair of USHL Alumni Named Hobey Hat Trick Finalists

The Hobey Baker Memorial Award Committee announced Thursday the three Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalists for the 2018 award, honoring college hockey's top player. Among the trio of finalists are former USHL players Ryan Donato (Omaha Lancers) and Adam Gaudette (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders).
Donato recorded 43 points (26G, 17A) in 29 games with Harvard University this season. He was also named to the All-ECAC First Team and earned ECAC Player of the Year honors. In addition to his success in college, he was named to the 2018 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team and scored five goals in the tournament, the most of any player. Donato recently signed his entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins and has recorded five points (3G, 2A) in his first five NHL games. The Scituate, MA native spent part of the 2014-15 season with the Omaha Lancers and was drafted by Boston in the second round, 56th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft.
Gaudette led all college hockey players in scoring during the 2017-18 season with 60 points (30G, 30A) in 38 games. He was named to the All-Hockey East First Team and was also named Hockey East Player of the Year following his outstanding season. The Braintree, MA native spent the 2014-15 campaign with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, tallying 30 points (13G, 17A) in 50 games. He was selected in the fifth round, 149th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2015 NHL Draft and recently signed his entry-level contract with the NHL club.
The Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced on Friday, April 6, from St. Paul, MN, during the Frozen Four from the legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium at 6 p.m. EDT.
Nine USHL alumni have won the prestigious award, including six in the past seven years. Former Dubuque Fighting Saints and Team USA defenseman, and current New Jersey Devils blueliner Will Butcher was the winner of the 2017 Hobey Baker Award.
