Kelowna Rockets News Release
BC Hockey announced earlier today that Kelowna Rockets prospects Eli Barrett and Kanjyu Gojsic have been named to the Program of Excellence's (POE) Male U16 Team BC for the upcoming 2023 WHL Cup.
Barett (26 overall) and Gojsic (48 overall) were drafted by the Rockets in the 2023 WHL Prospects draft and have signed WHL Scholarship & Development Agreements with Kelowna.
As 15-year-olds, both will only be able to appear in five regular season games as affiliate players for the Rockets this season until their respective clubs' seasons have come to an end.
The WHL Cup will take place October 17-22, 2023 in Red Deer. The tournament features players born in 2008 on teams from the four Western Canadian provinces (BC, AB, SK, MB) competing in a round-robin tournament format followed by playoffs.
The WHL Cup, established in 2009, is held every season except in years when the Canada Winter Games are held, and is the first step in Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence for players.
