Pair Honored for December Play

(Westport, Conn., January 2, 2003) – Harrisburg defender Genoni Martinez and Kansas City goalkeeper Paolo Ceccarelli have been named the Major Indoor Soccer League's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Month for December, the MISL announced on Thursday. Martinez tied for the League lead in scoring during December play while Ceccarelli posted the circuit's best save percentage and second best points against average.

Offensive:

Martinez notched three 3-point goals, five 2-point tallies, five assists and 24 points in eight December outings. The Mexico City, Mexico native also posted two game-winning goals and added 17 blocks on the defensive side of the ball for a Heat club that went 5-3 for the month.

The 27-year-old enjoyed his most productive outing of the month on December 29 vs. Baltimore. In that contest, Martinez posted two 3-point goals and six points to lead Harrisburg to an 11-2 victory over the Blast. Martinez recorded points in seven of the Heat's eight December contests, and registered six multi-point performances.

Martinez currently leads all MISL defenders and ranks seventh overall in MISL scoring with 46 points.

Others Receiving Consideration:

Harrisburg forward David Bascome tied Martinez for the League lead in December scoring with 24 points. Bascome also paced the MISL in total goals with 10.

Kansas City forward Dino Delevski registered seven goals, six assists and 21 points. Delevski paced the Comets while ranking fourth in the MISL in December scoring.

Cleveland forward Chris Stathopoulos posted eight goals, four assists and 20 points to lead the Force in December scoring. Stathopoulos was the MISL's fifth most productive player during December action.

Defensive:

Ceccarelli concluded December play with a 3-2 record while allowing 45 points in 298:36 of action. The 33-year-old goalkeeper registered a 9.04 points against average and a League best .768 save percentage during December play.

The former all-star held the opposition to single digits in three of his five outings, including back-to-back efforts in which he surrendered just six points per game. Ceccarelli's best effort came in the first of those two six-point contests in which the veteran netminder recorded 27 saves on 30 shots faced in leading Kansas City to a 13-6 win at San Diego on December 26.

Ceccarelli currently leads the MISL in save percentage for the season at .780. He ranks third in the League in saves with 231 and fifth in points against average at 10.70.

Others Receiving Consideration:

Milwaukee goalkeeper Victor Nogueira registered a 3-1 record with an 8.81 points against average. Nogueira leads the MISL in points against average on the season at 7.95.

Dallas goalkeeper Sagu posted a 3-2 December record with an 11.02 points against average. Sagu leads the MISL in minutes played on the season at 990:03.

Harrisburg goalkeeper Doug Petras went 4-3 on the month with a 9.73 points against average. Petras recorded a .705 save percentage during December play.
