Paints Take 9-5 Victory

June 9, 2011 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

On Thursday night the Dubois County Bombers took on the defending Prospect League Champion Chillicothe Paints in the first game of a two-game series. Dubois County struggled early, and the Paints got out to a 7-0 lead. The Bombers showed some resilience by cutting the lead to 7-5 in the eighth, but in the top of the ninth inning Chillicothe would score two more insurance runs to widen the gap. This proved to be too much, as the Bombers would lose their third straight by a score of 9-5.

Right-hander David Mueller (1-1) got his second start of the season, lasting five and 2/3 innings and giving up four earned runs. Mueller gave up eight hits, walked four, and struck out three in the losing effort.

The Bombers' offense started out slow, as Chillicothe starting pitcher Keenan White seemed to get fly ball outs whenever he wanted. In fact, 15 of the first 16 Bomber outs were results of fly balls and pop-ups. In the sixth, the Bombers got the hang of White and plated three runs, two coming on a single by first baseman Jamie Skagerlind. Skagerlind would finish 1-for-4 with three RBI's.

The middle of the lineup was effective for the Bombers, with Kolin Conner and T.J. Thomas both connecting on two hits and driving in a run. Conner was also the only Dubois County player with an extra-base hit, when he roped a double down the left field line in the eighth inning.

Tomorrow, June 10th, League Stadium will host a rematch between the Bombers and Paints at 7:15 pm. Dubois County will try to put an end to their three game skid, as Indiana State University lefthander Sean Manaea takes the hill looking for his first win.

Friday night will be Graduates' Night at the ballpark, presented by Vincennes University Jasper Campus. They are providing a Pandigital Multimedia Novel 7" Android Tablet & Color eReader, and a Sony E Series 8GB Walkman Video MP3 Player. These prizes will be given away to 2011 high school or college graduates. Every 2011 graduate will also receive a drawstring backpack when they come through the gate, courtesy of VUJC. Also at the game, A Kid's Place daycare in Huntingburg will be selling raffle tickets for a wooden playhouse. The tickets are $5 a piece or 5 for $20 and the drawing will be held during the Herbstfest in September. They will deliver the house to the winner anywhere up to 50 miles away. Once again, first pitch is set for 7:15 pm. Don't miss all of these great giveaways at League Stadium!
